Local name: “Daureb” meaning “burning mountain” in Damara language.
Beautiful & scenic hike. There are also rock art paintings on the trail that are 5,000 years old. There are about 50,000 rock art paintings in 900 sites on the mountain.
Day 1: Base (762 m) – Konigstein Peak (2,573 m) – Giraffe Camp (1,700 m).
This was a long day (14hrs) and covered 25km. Started the hike at 6:40am, summited at 3:40pm and descended to Giraffe Camp at 9:05pm. The camp gets its name from a giraffe rock painting there. Consumed 5 litres of water on this day and enjoyed a braai dinner at camp.
Day 2: Descended back to base.
Left camp at 6:55am and got back to base at 9:39am.
