Warges is a big mountain in Samburu. It’s part of the Matthews Range also known as, Lenkiyio Hills. Warges is named after a Samburu family and has multiple routes. We did our hike starting from Wamba town (1,348m), up to one of the peaks (2,428m). My aim was to reach the summit (2,688m) but didn’t manage to on this trip. It’s tough to do in a day.
Warges requires a very early start if you intend to reach the summit or do it as a multi-day hike. The trail involves some bushwhacking and also following elephant tracks. I definitely plan to go back and summit. Maybe a 2-day traverse. Warges is a nice challenge! A complete hike would have an elevation gain of over 2,000m.
